"Ighild's Lament" Sketch

"Faire, raven haired Ighild fled to the still waters of the Misty Sea in naught but her shift, a lantern held tightly in her thin, bone-white hand. The light fell softly to the sand as she staggered to the edge of the surf. Her mind distressed, she called to the waves and from those calm waters and the curling fog came the Black Swan. He beheld her pale countenance and grieved deep into his silent soul. Without a sound he gave her his body that she might flee that land on obsidian wings, flee to the edges of the world. With a staggering sigh of grief she beat her wings and left the ground, her shame, and her torment."

A sketch for a painting idea. I saw a piece of reference earlier and was reminded of a story I had been working on. Charcoal on Canson paper.
